Make sure your hospital bags are packed as you near the 3rd trimester. Putting it off for too long puts you at risk for having to go to the hospital empty handed. Some essential items are a fully charged camera with extra batteries, your insurance card and ID, and your birth plan.
This may sound odd to you, but if you are pregnant stay away from the cat litter. Cat litter can carry toxoplasmosis. This parasite can cause problems for your baby. Don’t risk your baby’s health. Stay away from cat litter.
Walk it out if you’re overdue. Walking is healthy and can lower baby into position for birthing. Have your partner come, too. Don’t do contact exercise, as that could be dangerous.
During your pregnancy, take the time to talk with your partner about who will take care of the child. New parents are often shocked when they realize just one parent does most of the care for the baby. Specifying who has responsibility for what is a good way to maintain good relationships after the birth.
Never smoke cigarettes while pregnant. Many things can go wrong with your pregnancy if you smoke during it. There are a lot of negative things that can happen to both baby and mother. Especially, there’s a big risk of something called an ectopic pregnancy. Smokers tend to have increased rates of miscarriage and stillbirth. Premature delivery is more common, as are birth defects.
Don’t eat for two! This isn’t completely true – a baby’s stomach is rather on the small side. You only need around 300 more calories daily to have a healthy baby.
Visit thrift stores when shopping for maternity clothing. You don’t need to spend a lot for clothing you’ll wear less than a year. You’ll keep the cost down, recycle clothes and put the money into baby supplies instead.
Kegel exercises are very beneficial during pregnancy. You can do these exercises anywhere. Do sets of 10, holding for 3 seconds each. Making these a habit will strengthen the muscles used in delivery. These exercises also help correct any incontinence problems.
It’s important to know as much as possible before your baby is due. Pregnancy has its ups and downs, and the more advice you have for dealing with them, the better.
